Jagatsukh is 6 km (4 miles) south of Manali, on the left bank of the Beas. The two shikhara-style stone temples here possibly date back to the 6th century. Naggar, further south, on the same side of the river, succeeded Jagatsukh as the capital till it was moved to Kullu in the 17th century. The Naggar castel, built in the 15th century, is now a hotel. It is an excellent example of traditional local architecture with walls composed of alternate layers of wooden beams and evenly hewn stone. It commands a fine view of the Beas valley.
